Poker is the new snooker

World champ John Higgins says Hold'em is as challenging as wielding a cue As well as being a bit tasty with a cue, current 888.com World Snooker Champion John Higgins is also a dab hand at playing poker. Being away from home for weeks at a time, John turned to Hold'em to while away the hours between matches.

He quickly noticed there are similarities between the two games: "You can't afford to play too tight in snooker these days," says John. "You've got to be more attacking and go for your chances. In the 80s you could be a bit tight, these days that doesn't wash. It's the same with poker. Sometimes it's okay to play tight but other times you've got to follow your instincts, see where it takes you."

John made it to the final three in his heat at the 888.com UK Poker Open recently and he remains confident of going even further in the game. "No matter what your experience, there's always that one time where you'll be able to beat the best. And that doesn't happen in any other sport, especially snooker." The 888.com World Snooker Championships is at The Crucible in Sheffield from 19 April to 5 May 2008

Vic's a real 888 ladies man

Hardly a stranger to getting into character, comedian Vic Reeves raised a few plucked eyebrows when he dressed up as a lady to advertise our exciting new bingo website, 888ladies.com. Vic donned the frock and wig to illustrate the advert's theme of Everybody Wants To Be An 888lady. This doesn't mean that men can't play. Quite the opposite, in fact.

Even pro Steve Wong admits he enjoys bingo - in his own clothes - when not at the poker table.
